Prof. Rainer Zierock embodied the perfect union between wine and science. Founder of the Dolomytos Winery in Auna di Sotto, his love for Greek mythology and passion for oenology gave birth to wines produced according to the pentagram principle, blending Italian and Greek grape varieties in a unique harmony. Similarly, Giancarlo Godio stands as a pillar in Italian culinary history, bringing his passion and mastery to the art of cooking. Established as a prestigious name in the gastronomic scene, he earned a Michelin star, becoming a reference point for gourmets throughout Italy and Europe. With the establishment of these awards, the Merano WineFestival aims to keep alive the legacy and contribution of these two figures, encouraging future generations to follow in their footsteps in the relentless pursuit of excellence.
