Merano WineFestival reflects excellence and elegance since 1992

The Merano WineFestival is the first event organized in Europe that, since 1992, focuses on selected quality in an elegant, excellent and elite environment. It was the first event that created a sensory journey with a single glass of wine, and the first ever called WineFestival.

Its strength lies in a selection of food and wine products by The WineHunter Award that lasts a whole year!

MWF is not just an event; it is a real “think tank”, a forum for the exchange of opinions between producers, opinion leaders, professionals in the sector and consumers: a meeting of food and wine excellence.

The worldwide visibility and notoriety of the Merano WineFestival are a confirmation of quality. A wine and food producer selected by The WineHunter and Merano WineFestival joins the high quality Gotha.

The selections through the coveted The WineHunter Award

The event was created in 1992 by The WineHunter, Helmuth Köcher, president of the Merano WineFestival, creator and owner of the The WineHunter brand.

All companies producing wine, food, beer and spirits that aspire to participate in this exclusive event must undergo a selection process that lasts one year.

Throughout the year the best products of wine and food producers have the possibility to obtain The WineHunter Award, the only recognition that will allow them to participate in the Merano WineFestival.

Where does the Merano WineFestival take place?

The main location of the Merano WineFestival is the Kurhaus, the historic building of Merano that overlooks the famous Promenade along the Merano Passirio.

Each section of the event takes place in a prestigious location which are scattered throughout the city of Merano: from the Hotel Therme Meran, to the Piazza della Rena, to the Puccini Theater, to the Corso della Libertà.

The events of the Merano WineFestival

Wine – The WineHunter Selection section is the result of a tasting and evaluation process that lasts all year round selected by tasting commissions from all over Italy. This section includes all the national and international wines awarded with The WineHunter Award ROSSO, GOLD and PLATINUM.

The GourmetArena, in the same way, is the section dedicated to Food, Spirits, Beer awarded The WineHunter Award.

The Merano WineFestival also dedicates a section to the most growing sector of the past years, that of organic, biodynamic, natural, “orange” and PIWI wines: Naturae et Purae bio&dynamica.

The Masterclasses are dedicated to a variety of guided wine tastings of national and international wine excellence with the aim of creating culture and knowledge.

To celebrate the closing of the Merano WineFestival, the Catwalk Champagne is an event that offers emotions without borders. It is a parade of some of the most famous Champagne houses in combination with some carefully selected culinary excellences that blend well with the queen of sparkling wines: predominantly companies of the fish and confectionery sector and dairy products.
